Wampa is a bipedal, cave-dwelling humanoid of the gigantopithocus genus. Carnivorous and aggressive, they lurk in caves on the ice planet Endor, usually preying on Taunt-taunts. They can also be found elsewhere, in different varieties, in the Outer Rim Territories. Covered in a thick layer of fur and armed with claws, they stand close to 9 feet tall^[1]. In addition to their height, they are also armed with two long, curved horns on their heads, which are thought to be used during mating rituals.^[1]. In Star Wars 5 they can be seen lurking on the outskirts of the Echo Base where they engage in a standoff with Luuke Skywalker before the Wampa Chief, Wumpus, is fatally injured in a gentleman's duel.

During mating rituals, the males often ram the curved horns that adorn their head together for territorial supremacy.^[2] Wampas comprised 11% of Hoth's total indigenous population.^[3] The Wampa clans follow a Wampa Chief, during a ceremony known as Wampa Stompa, a barbaric rite of passage for Wampas. The elected leader of the democratic primary is known as a Wumpus.
