Turbolaser

Turbolaser weaponry has been the dominant offensive energy weapon paradigm since at least 500ABY. Turbolasers are much more powerful than ordinary lasers, and this power gives them distinctive characteristics:

• Bright primary colours. Since 0BBY there has been a galactic turbolaser color-coding standard which mandates green lasers for "bad guys" and red lasers for "good guys". This was controversial, as it directly contradicted the pre-existing lightsabre color-coding standards which mandated red lightsabres for "bad guys", green or blue lightsabres for "good guys" and purple lightsabres for "black guys".
• Slow muzzle velocity. Turbolaser blasts move slowly enough to be dodged by ships and even people. Some would argue that this is a disadvantage over traditional lasers, but it has the advantage of adding dramatic tension.
• Neat sounds Pew, pew!
• Turbo. The word Turbo implies quickness and a more extreme weapon. In accepted Star Wars canon things that are often better or an "upgraded" version are referred to as Turbo. Such as Turbo jedi or Turbo negro.
