[edit] Reception
[edit] Critics
The Empire Strikes Back is generally considered the least successful of the Star Wars films. Critics agreed that the film was rushed out, and was little more than an excuse to bring back characters from the first movie.
[edit] Public
The Empire Strikes Back was a box office failure, taking in less than $30 million worldwide on an estimated $90 million budget.
[edit] George Lucas
George Lucas has publicly disowned the film, noting that he was forced to make it under constant studio interference. He famously once claimed "if I had the time and a sledgehammer, I would track down every bootlegged copy of that program and smash it."
