Paul Verhoeven

A Dutch director most famous for directing The Empire Strikes Back. Verhoeven was the driving force behind the increased use of graphic sexual and violent material in the film. This was done to emulate Verhoeven's success in his American debut "Robocop" rather than follow the tried and true formula of Episodes I-IV. It wasn't until the release of Empire Strikes Back: The Special Edition in 1998 that George Lucas' original vision of "Empire" could be seen. Since this release, "Empire" has taken the auspicious position as the most beloved of all the Star Wars films.
