Chancellor Roderick Palpatine was once Yoda's prized pupil in the year 100PY (Pre Yavin). He was trained in the Dalbeck lightsaber styles by Yoda, and was second only to Yaddle in his mastery of this style.

One day, while on the planet Kasyyak, a great storm was raging. Palpatine, who was force meditating on a beach saw the lightning raging, and a lightbulb went off in his head. perhaps he could direct this "force" as a purely offensive attack, like a bolt of lightning! With a great "KRAKOOOM," a bolt shot from his hands, and Palpatine created the technique known as force lightning.

Unfortunately, force lightning is a dark side technique, and as you know, doing a single dark side technique crosses you over to the dark side. Now that Palpatine was a slave to the darkside, he had to create a plan. He captured a ysilimari pup and raised it as a pet. Then, he kept it under his robes at all times. One day he went to Yoda and explained that he lost his force powers due to an accident on Bespin and that he regretfully no longer could be his student. However, he would continue to spread the Jedi legacy via politics. This started his political career as Senator.

After meeting a young woman named Mara Jade, Palpatine fell in love. He once told her that she was like his hand, being that he couldn't live without her, and she was then nicknamed Palpatine's hand. They had a son, whom they named Malton, and they loved him very much.

However, on a vacation to Tatooine, Malton was swallowed whole by a Sarlacc pit monster after a landspeeder accident. Palpatine used his force lightning on the vile creature, which killed it. However, the acidic process turned Malton's skin red and made horns grow out of his head. Cruel kids around him nicknamed him "Darth Maul" due to him being "mauled" by the monster, and the name stuck. Palpatine exclaimed "those children are insidious!" and then named himself "Darth Sidious" out of respect for his son.

Palpatine blamed his misfortunes on the Jedi, and planned their demise from that point on. He trained Maul in the bushu style of lightsaber fighting, and created new techniques like the Force Choke technique and Force drain. He then used secret sith techniques to create a lifeform known as newt Gungray, and from that, started the Intergalactic banking Clan, which he would later use to blockade Naboo. Then the events of Episodes 1-6 happened.

When Palpatine was thrown into the reactor by Darth Vader, he used a technique similar to Obi Wan and Yoda and expelled his spirit in a blue force. He later used this spirit to posses a young man known as Kit Cloudkicker, and even now, still plans his revenge against the Jedi.
