Yuenglings (Force-sensitive children) who had completed their training with Yoda were assigned to Jedi knights as Oldowan apprentices. The Oldowan, being too young to build their own lightsabers, formed weapons from nodules of flint.

After passing a series of tests, an Oldowan apprentice would be promoted to the status of Acheulean apprentice.
