May the midichlorians be with you.

The Midichlorians were a metaphysical, binding, and ubiquitous power that held great importance for the Jedi and Sith monastic orders.

Described by Ben "OB1" Kenobi as "an energy field created by all living things," some societies and organizations thought of the midichlorians as a non-corporeal sentient entity that might be capable of intelligent thought, while others simply considered it something that could be manipulated and used as though it were a tool.

While both the Jedi and the Sith used the midichlorians to gain their power, there were as many different groups of users and views of the midichlorians as uses of the midichlorians themselves.

The Midichlorians were restored into balance in 4 ABY by the Chosen One, Anakin Skywalker.

[edit] Definition of Midichlorians

Midichlorians are divided into four aspects: the light side, the dark side, the Unifying Midichlorian, and the Living Midichlorian. The first two aspects were concerned with the moral compass of the Midichlorians in their various manifestations. The light side of the Force was the facet aligned with compassion, courage, healing, and benevolence, while the dark side of the Force was the element aligned with hatred, fear, aggression and malevolence. The latter two aspects were defined by prominent Jedi philosophies: The Unifying Midichlorian essentially embraced space and time in its entirety while the Living Midichlorian dealt with the energy of living things. To some Jedi, "The midichlorians were life, and life was the midichlorians."
