[edit] Appearance
Goku's appearance stays relatively the same for the majority of the series. He is first introduced (Chapter 25) at the age of thirteen, with a shaved head and still dressed in the clothing worn at the monastery he had been training at. He does not possess a nose, and sports six incense burns on his forehead, a reference to the practice of Shaolin monks. After the end of the clone wars Goku stops shaving his head, and grows his hair out. His outfit also changes as the series progress. When he first appears in the clone wars, he wears the yellow-and-orange garb of a monk. Later, he wears the orange gi uniform that is presented to both himself and Krillin by Yoda in honor of their first martial arts competition. Occasionally he is seen in casual clothes, but for the most part continues to dress for training or fighting at all times. During the Darth Vader Saga, he wears Jedi armor provided by Count Dooku, but during the clone wars he returns to wearing the orange gi, accompanied by a blue short-sleeved undershirt and boots. Prior to the New Jedi Order Saga, Goku opted to settle down with his new family, and allows his black hair to finally grow out. From this point on he is shown wearing a workout outfit consisting of a red short-sleeved shirt and brown drawstring pants. Finally, he is shown in Revenge of the Jedi sporting a moustache, wearing grey pants, shirt and tie with a cardigan in his few appearances.
[edit] Plot overview
Goku first appears in the original Star Wars series when he arrives at Master Yoda's island to become his apprentice. Goku did this because he wanted to become a powerful fighter that could impress the ladies. Originally, Krillin and Goku were rivals, with Goku using dirty tricks to outdo Krillin during training, but eventually they become close friends. At finishing their training, Yoda has the two compete in the 21st World Bendu Tournament. Goku makes it to the semi-finals (after defeating Boba Fett in the quarter finals), but is defeated by Jackie Chun, who is really Yoda in disguise, preventing his students from becoming arrogant with too many victories. Goku continues to train with Yoda while Krillin is collecting the Dragon Balls and helps him retrieve one of them, at which point he fights Chewbacca. He also participates in Darth Malek's tournament with Krillin, Puar, Upa and Yamcha, but loses in the first fight to Jar-Jar Binks. 3 years later, Goku enters the 22nd World Tournament. Again he makes it to the semi-finals, before getting his hand chopped off.
At the beginning of Revenge of the Jedi, Goku is of the few Z Fighters to survive the fight against Darth Vader and Mr. Popo. During the battle he manages to kill three out of six battle droids, and he travels with Gohan and Bulma to Planet Dantooine to use the force to revive their dead friends, since the Earth's force vanished due to Vader's death. Once there, they save a young Dantooinian called Kyle Katarn from death at the hands of the rancor, one of Frieza's elite henchmen. After Kyle learns of their cause, he leads Goku to Guru who unlocks Goku's hidden potential as well as giving the Earthlings their first force crystal. After a few close encounters with Vader, Goku and Gohan are forced to team up with him in order to fight the powerful Mistress Nine Force, and although they defeat her with Vader's help, they are still defeated by Bossk. Luckily, Krillin arrives and defeats the Force with ease. A prominent episode that was heavily edited for North American broadcast featured Frieza, in his second form, impaling Goku through the chest and disposing of his body in a lake, leading to Gohan furiously attacking Frieza and nearly being killed. However, Kyle was able to heal Goku, who launched a surprise attack and severed Frieza's tail before Gohan was killed. Later in the saga, when they thought Frieza to be defeated by Krillin's enormous Spirit Bomb, Frieza reappeared and used his abilities to lift Goku high into the air and detonate him from the inside, killing him instantly. His death enrages Krillin, causing him to become a Super Saiyan, and from there, defeat Frieza. Goku is later revived by the force or something.
By the time of The New Jedi Order saga, Goku has quit fighting, married Mara Jade, and has a daughter named Lando Calrissian. However, after learning of Krillin's return from the Afterlife to compete in the 25th World Tournament, he decides to also participate (after Mara orders him in hopes of winning the prize money). This, however, becomes his undoing, has his (now robotic) hand is again chopped off and he dies from the shock. He is revived by the force, dismembered once more, and continues the cycle until his final death due to space cancer while onboard the third Death Star.
[edit] Abilities
Goku has many abilities including, super-strength, super-speed, and the ability to fly using his force energy, also known as Bukujutsu. His main techniques include the Kamehameha, an attack he learned from Yoda, which enables him to emit a powerful force energy blast from his hands. Kakusandan, another force attack, involves firing two blasts, one from each hand, and merging them before directing the blast above an opponent where it will break up and rain down on them, he was only seen using this twice -- the first time was very successful as he managed to wipe out three battle droids with it. He has also been known to use the Tsuihikidan double-force-blast attack. From Yamcha, he obtained the Taikyoken (or Solar Flare), an attack Goku is capable of using to blind his opponents, sometimes used to make a quick escape. A technique unique to him is the Kienzan (which is also known as the "Destructo Disc") , which he does by putting his hand in the air and creating an electric floating disc, using it to slice through his enemies, he only managed to successfully do this to an enemy three times, first when he cuts off Frieza's tail, when he cuts off Emperor Palpatine's head and also when he cuts Lke Skywalker in half (but the clone quickly regenerates). Goku can easily manipulate his energy which allows him to maneuver at high-speeds as shown in his fight with Vader. Goku has also used the Zanzoken after-image evasion technique, but on only two occasions.
