Death sticks

"You wanna buy some death sticks?" - Guy in bar
Death sticks are a recreational drug prevalent throughout the galaxy. Originally discovered by an accident on the planet Dantooine in the year 4,357 B.B.Y., death sticks first developed heightened popularity with freighter pilots as a means to stay awake for extended periods of time.
[edit] Controversy
Death sticks entered popular lexicon when a major controversy nearly ripped apart the Jedi Order. In the year 3,803 B.B.Y., a young Jedi apprentice, whose name was afterwards erased from the archives and is unknown, was expelled for the alleged distribution of death sticks among Younglings. Though he or she maintained innocence throughout the trial, it was the testimony of the apprentice's master, Proden Kel Verdox, that ultimately led to conviction. Kel Verdox was prohibited from commenting on the trial in public, but it was only when an anonymous informant disclosed the details of his testimony to a tabloid newspaper that Kel Verdox even acknowledged that he was aware of the trial.
[edit] Current status
Death sticks have been outlawed in nearly three-fourths of all systems, but some areas have yet to acknowledge the findings of some medical reports which claim that the drug has led to permanent impairment of mental facilities. Therefore, it is still legal to purchase death sticks on some planets. They remain a popular recreational drug on all systems and can be easily acquired in nearly any establishment that caters to other vices.
