Akira Kurosawa is a Japanese screenwriter and director who wrote the original draft of Star Wars 4, under the original title "The Hidden Fortress." George Lucas, having just completed Star Wars 3: Return of the Sith, unabashedly stole the script, changed the title, and attached his name to it.

Kurosawa later achieved international recognition as the director of Battle Royale, King Kong vs. Godzilla, and the video game Seven Samurai 20XX.
